MBC 뉴스. 고 이용마 기자가 남긴 유언 실천하지 못했다. 기계적 중립성을 넘어, 소외 계층의 시각에서 뉴스를 보도하라던 이용마 기자 정신을 되살리자.

최승호 전 MBC 사장의 바램과는 무관하게, MBC는 문재인 정부하에서도, 언론 자유 정신, 이용마 정신을 실천하지 못했다. 자본의 눈치, 정부의 눈치를 보지 않고, 이용마 기자가 말한 이 사회의 소외 계층의 시각에서 뉴스 보도를 하지 못했다. 이명박 박근혜 정부 하에서, 김재철 사장의 폭거도 없는 상황에서, 최승호  PD, 박성제 기자가 사장을 역임했어도, MBC는 이용마 기자 정신을 실천하지 못했다.

언론의 사명이란, 다수의 목소리를 반영해서 억울한 사람들이 나오지 않는 사회를 만드는 것이다.  형식적인 권력 견제나 정치적 균형 보도에 그치지 않고, 그것에 만족하지 않고, 적극적인 의미에서 사회정의를 실천하는 것이다."

 

The mission of journalism is to build a society in which people believe they are not unfairly treated at all while it listens to many voices from the below. Journalism should not be complacent with its formal check and balance of powers and equally distributional reporting of political forces. Rather it should put social justice into practice in positive and substantial ways.
