pale sky (약간 푸르슴한 회색 하늘) , 분노의 포도, 존 스타인벡

by 원시 2024. 3. 9.

pale sky (약간 푸르슴한 회색 하늘)

하늘이 약간 푸스름한 회색빛으로 변하자 땅도 푸스름한 회색으로, 붉은 땅은 분홍색으로, 회색 땅은 흰색으로 변했다.

The clouds appeared, and went away, and in a while they did not try any more.

The weeds grew darker green to protect themselves, and they did not spread any more. The surface of the earth crusted, a thin hard crust, and as the sky became pale, so the earth became pale, pink in the red country and white in the gray country. (John Steinbeck, the Grapes of Wrath)

"Pale" generally means lacking intensity of color; colorless or whitish:

"a pale complexion." In "pale sky" however, the meaning is different

: not bright or brilliant; dim.

A "pale sky" lacks brightness, and can be a result of clouds,

which make the sky seem kind of grayish, but slightly blue,

 like the picture below.Jul 5, 2011
