마이클 무어 뿐만 아니라, 우리가 진지하게 물어야 할 질문은, 군사력,자본의 힘, 헤게모니를 장악한 제국의 세력들 속에서 한 나라의 '인민 주권 sovereignty'이 확보되는 방식이고, 주권이 어떻게 민주주의 원리를 실천하고 구현하느냐이다.

 

2001년 911 뉴욕 사건의 배후로, 알 카에다와 오사마 빈 라덴을 지목한 미국 조지 부시는 그들의 근거지가 아프가니스탄이라고 판단하고 카불을 점령했다. 20년이 지난 후, 카불을 점령한 미군은 떠나고, 다시 탈레반이 돌아왔다.

 

물론 마이클 무어의 단순 비교는 국제정치와 종교와 얽힌 아랍국가들과 중동 지역, 석유산업과 미국 등 서방세계의 이해관계 등을 다 설명하지 못한다.

Some similarities, but not the same. Yes, the people who stormed the capitol were insurrectionists, but the outcome is so much more devastating for the Afghan people. If I were an Afghani, I might feel resentful of this comparison.

This is definitely not a good day for humanity. And I feel nothing but sadness that they all have to go through this. But a I find it somewhat alarming that people seem more outraged about Afghanistan than they do about our own citizens who tried to overthrow our government. Where is everyone's outrage at that? Where are the consequences for that? We have pretty short attention spans.
