가난하지만 마음이 부자인 아이들. 닳아 해진 옷을 입고서도 웃는 얼굴은 다같이 어울려 잘 사는 천사의 해맑음으로 빛난다. 무릎의 때나 코를 흘리리는 것만 빼면, 아이들은 청결하고 건강하다. 숨이 턱막힐 정도의 고통스런 더러운 외딴 동네에 들어섰다는 인상을 전혀 받지 않았다.
