The Israeli raids continue targeting several sites in the territory. During the last hour different sites in the Gaza Strip were bombarded by the Israeli airstrikes.
That includes a residential house in Rafah district [in the south of Gaza]. This city, which contains hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been widely bombarded during the last couple of hours.
The majority of Palestinians have followed the orders of the Israeli occupation forces, especially those who are residing in the northern and central areas of the Gaza Strip, to evacuate to the southern areas of the territory.
However, the current situation on the ground in the southern areas considered to be really devastating people here are so desperate that they might lose their life and the moment.

Pro-Palestine rally held in Berlin
Thousands have taken to streets in the German capital Berlin in support of Palestinians and to end the war in Gaza.
One of the posters at the rally accused Israel of “genocide”, while others voiced disapproval of the German government’s backing of Israel. People could be heard chanting “Viva, Viva Palestine” and “Free Palestine” during the demonstration.
The event was organised by an individual and operated under the banner of “Global South United,” according to the police.

UAE calls on UN Security Council to meet on Gaza
The United Arab Emirates has requested the UNSC to convene “at the earliest opportunity” in response to Israel’s expanded ground incursions in Gaza.
UAE is also demanding a response to the shutdown of telecommunications networks, unnamed diplomats told Reuters news agency.
It also called for briefings from UN aid chief Martin Griffiths and Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency responsible for providing assistance to Palestinians.
The 15-member Security Council may gather as soon as Sunday, diplomats say.

Israeli military posts videos of Gaza ground operations
The army says the video shows Israeli forces targeting Hamas anti-tank positions and buildings used as meeting points.
“Starting in the early evening last night, the IDF [Israel Defense Forces], led by combined combat teams of armoured, engineering and infantry forces, is operating on the ground in the northern Gaza Strip,” the post said.
The announcement comes more than 24 hours after entering the Palestinian territory as the military expanded its war on Hamas.
About 360,000 reservists have been summoned. They will supplement an active military force of more than 150,000, giving Israel half a million men and women in uniform.

Red Crescent still unable to communicate with teams in Gaza
The Palestinian Red Crescent says it is unable to communicate with its teams in Gaza, including medics and hospitals.
“We are extremely concerned for the well-being of our teams,” said Nebal Farsakh, spokeswoman for the Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza City.
She added the loss of communication means more than two million people cannot reach out to ambulance services. This includes the wounded, people with chronic disease, and pregnant women.

Guterres spoke with Egyptian leader while in Qatar: UN spokesman
Farhan Haq says the UN chief, while visiting Qatar, also held a call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
“For us, the big point is to reach out to everyone we can who have influence with either side – either Israelis or with Hamas – to put an end to the situation we’re in right now,” he told Al Jazeera.
When asked about Israeli’s criticism of Guterres, he said, “Ultimately, our focus is on improving the situation. We’ll continue our contacts at all levels with both the Israelis and with anyone in the region who can help with the situation.”
He added Guterres is pushing for the release of captives, unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, and a humanitarian ceasefire.
Earlier el-Sisi issued a warning for the Middle East, “The region will become a ticking time bomb that impacts us all.”

Israeli forces moving to the ‘next stage’ of war: Military
“This war has stages and today we are moving to the next stage. Our forces are currently operating on the ground in the Gaza Strip,” Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi said in a televised message.
Israel said troops sent in on Friday night were still in the field whereas previously it made only brief sorties.
Earlier, we reported Israeli Defence Minister Gallant also acknowledging a “new phase” in the war. “We attacked above the ground and below ground, we attacked terror operatives of all ranks, everywhere.”
Though there is no indication as yet of a full-scale ground invasion, Israel is telling hundreds of thousands of people to move away from Gaza’s north.

Israel will have to go ‘all the way through’ Gaza: Analyst
Israel says it plans to completely “eradicate” Hamas in the war.
It’s an endgame that likely spells “catastrophe” without any “good outcome”, according to Harlan Ullman, a senior adviser at the US-based Atlantic Council. He says the Hamas attack gave Israel “no option” but to “go in heavy into Gaza”.
“And once that happens, I don’t see any way out,” Ullman told Al Jazeera. “Now possibly, and I hope the United States is doing this – by stitching together some kind of diplomatic initiative with Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar – maybe after imposing initial ground strikes there can be some kind of a ceasefire or a truce.
“But without that, this is just going to get worse because Israel has got to go all the way through Gaza to achieve its aims of getting rid of Hamas – and the Gazans have no place to go.”

If Israel wants to resolve hostage crisis, ‘we are ready’: Hamas
Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Obaida says Israeli air raids and shelling have killed 50 captives.
The “price” of returning all the captives in Gaza is the release of all Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons – estimated at about 6,600 people.
“If the enemy wants to resolve this issue, we are ready,” he said.
“If the enemy wants to close this file of detainees in one go, we are ready for it. If it wants to do it step-by-step, we are ready for that, too.”
Some 229 hostages are being held in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli army.

In the centre of Ramallah, there is yet another protest and another vigil taking place.
This is now a nightly event. Not only here in Ramallah, but right across the occupied West Bank. We see protests every night in Nablus, in Hebron, in Jenin for example. We are expecting to see much more of this in the hours ahead.
There were at least 25 people arrested last night. That brings the number of arrests and detention since October 7 to approximately 1,550. It takes the total number of Palestinians in Israeli jails in so-called administrative detention – that’s being held without being charged – to about 6,600 Palestinians.

Since the Gaza war began, there has been an increase in the number of Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in general – and farmers, in particular – in the occupied West Bank, a coordinator from the Campaign to Resist the Wall and Settlements says.
“The attacks have increased threefold compared to the months prior. The purpose being expelling the Palestinian people from their land,” Suhail Salman said.
Settler attacks have included preventing Palestinians from moving between villages and towns, as well as throwing rocks and shooting at Palestinian vehicles.
The Israeli army, Salman told Al Jazeera, is complicit as it imposed a lockdown on the occupied West Bank, which has made it easier for settlers to carry out attacks, in addition to distributing weapons to settlers.

Israel recalls diplomats from Turkey
Foreign Minister Eli Cohen announced diplomats in Turkey were ordered to return so Israel can “conduct a reassessment of Israel-Turkey relations”.
The order comes as pro-Palestine protests continue in Turkey with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza. He said earlier his country is making preparations to proclaim Israel a “war criminal”.
The Turkish leader has also said “Hamas is not a terrorist organisation, it is a liberation group“, while calling the West the “main culprit” behind the killing of civilians in Gaza.
The statements have roiled relations between the two countries, which had seen a thaw in recent years.

The search for comfort in the Gaza night
Al Jazeera correspondents in the Gaza Strip are able to provide sporadic updates via satellite but direct communication is often hampered by the near-total communications blackout in the bombarded enclave.

Sadly, with a complete blackout, no phone service and no internet connection, the fear just begins to mount from the early morning of the day. How are we going to make it through another night?
You are knowing there might be unpredictable bombing or an air strike where you live or nearby. You try to stay as calm as possible. If you have a prayer you say it, go to sleep, and try not to think too much about what’s going on.
But we know deep down in our hearts, whatever we tell each other, or whatever we tell our kids, it’s just a way make them feel a little bit comfortable.
In the middle of the conversation, an air strike happens or the sound of a loud explosion in the neighbourhood or from a distance can be heard. And so this completely just smashes whatever comforting words you’re trying to share with each other. This is the hardest part.

Residents of Gaza steadfast despite increase in attacks
Gaza resident Mansour Shouman tells Al Jazeera there has been “a lot of chaos” over the last 24 hours with a near-total communication blackout.
“However, the people of Gaza – despite all the challenges, despite everything they are going through – they are still holding steadfast.”
The public remains “extremely angry” more aid has not been allowed into the enclave, Shouman says.
“I’m in the south of Gaza. I’ve separated from my family and I haven’t seen them in a couple of weeks. They are suffering from malnutrition. They don’t have food. They are drinking dirty water. This is just an example of 2.3 million people here in Gaza.”

110 doctors and other medical staff killed so far: Gaza ministry
At least 110 medical staff in the Gaza Strip have been killed by Israeli shelling and air raids since October 7, the health ministry says.
More than 100 medical staff have been injured
50 ambulances have been attacked, half no longer functioning
12 hospitals and 46 primary healthcare clinics have shut down because of damage from bombing or lack of fuel
24 hospitals – with a bed occupancy of 2,000 – have been told to evacuate in northern Gaza

Egypt: ‘Israeli obstacles’ impeding aid delivery to Gaza
Egypt’s foreign ministry says “Israeli obstacles” are hindering the delivery of much-needed humanitarian relief into the besieged enclave.
“It is unfortunate the process of transporting aid to the Gaza Strip faces major logistical problems imposed by the Israeli side,” it said in a statement.
The Rafah crossing, located in the southern part of Gaza bordering Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, is the only way to cross into Egypt and serves as a vital link between Gaza and the rest of the world.

Shell hits UN peacekeeper base in south Lebanon
A shell hit the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, the second such incident since war erupted between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
“A shell hit inside the base [in Naqoura],” said Andrea Tenenti, spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. He reported “no injuries but some damage”, adding UNIFIL is seeking to verify who fired the round.
A Lebanese military source told the AFP news agency on condition of anonymity, “an Israeli shell penetrated the cement wall” around UNIFIL headquarters.

Qatar calls on int’l community to honour UN resolution
Following a meeting with UN chief Guterres, Qatar’s foreign ministry called on the international community to honour the non-binding UN resolution passed by the General Assembly for a “humanitarian truce”.
During the meeting, Qatari Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Qatar condemns “all forms of targeting civilians”, and the Gulf state completely rejects the “indiscriminate bombing of the Gaza Strip”.
He said Qatar would continue to work with the UN in mediation efforts.

European Union’s Borrell calls for urgent ‘pause’ in hostilities
The bloc’s top diplomat Josep Borell says “far too many” civilians – including children – have been killed in Gaza, noting such attacks are against international law.
“Gaza is in complete blackout and isolation while heavy shelling continues,” he said on X. “A pause of hostilities is urgently needed to enable humanitarian access.”
On Thursday, EU leaders issued a declaration calling for a halt to the fighting to establish humanitarian corridors and get much-needed aid into Gaza.

Hamas calls for implementation of UNGA decision on aid to Gaza
Hamas official Ghazi Hamad has called for the immediate implementation of the UN General Assembly decision to allow humanitarian relief into Gaza, warning of a disaster as Israel widens its air and ground attacks.
“We consider the decision a victory for our Palestinian people, and we demand this aid piled up on the Egyptian side be quickly sent and distributed to all areas and hospitals in Gaza Strip,” Hamad said in a news conference in Beirut.
The General Assembly on Friday overwhelmingly called for an immediate humanitarian truce between Israel and Hamas and demanded aid access to the besieged Gaza Strip and protection of civilians. The resolution, drafted by Arab states, is not binding but carries political weight.
Ghazi said Israel has forced Palestinians to move from northern parts of Gaza into the southern parts with plans to try to push them to move to Egypt. “We strongly reject that and say that our Palestinians will stay in their land.”

UN chief in Qatar hails ‘tireless mediation initiatives’
The UN secretary-general says he is meeting with Qatari Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Guterres came to express “our full gratitude, appreciation and support for Qatar’s tireless mediation initiatives, namely for the release of the hostages kept in Gaza”.
In a subsequent post on X, he said: “I was encouraged by what seemed to be a growing consensus for the need of at least a humanitarian pause in the Middle East. Regrettably, instead I was surprised by an unprecedented escalation of bombardments, undermining humanitarian objectives.”

Main culprit behind Gaza massacre is the West: Erdogan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has addressed a massive pro-Palestinian rally in Istanbul.
Speaking to tens of thousands of people, Erdogan said Hamas is not a “terrorist organisation” and called Israel “the occupier”.
“We will tell the whole world that Israel is a war criminal, we are making preparations for this,” the president said.
“The main culprit behind the massacre unfolding in Gaza is the West,” he added.
“The West owes you, but Turkey does not owe you,” he said, referring to Israel.

Gaza’s besieged people had barely any communications with the outside world on Saturday as Israeli jets dropped more bombs and suggested a long-threatened ground offensive against Hamas militants running the Palestinian enclave was starting.
Israel said troops sent in on Friday night were still in the field whereas previously it had made only brief sorties during three weeks of bombing to destroy Hamas whom it said killed 1,400 Israelis in an major assault on October 7th.
The country’s defence minister said “the ground shook in Gaza” and that the war against the territory’s Hamas rulers has entered a new stage.
This largely cut off the besieged enclave’s 2.3 million people from the world while enabling the Israeli military to control the narrative in a new stage of fighting.
