외교파의 트리타 파르시 (Trita Parsi)가 '체제 교체' 와 '전쟁론자' 마시 알리네자드의 입장을 비판하다.
미국과 캐나다에 거주하는 이란인들의 전쟁에 대한 입장은 크게 두 가지로 나뉜다.
(1) 외교파
발리 나스리 (Vali Nasr)와 더불어 대표적인 외교파인 트리타 파르시는 '미국의 이란 전쟁'을 반대하고, 외교적 협상과 경제제재 해제를 주장해오고 있다. 미국과 이스라엘의 '군사적 개입'은 오히려 이란 민주화 운동세력을 약화시키고, 이슬람 강경파(신정체제)와 혁명수비대의 군사-정치-경제적 독재를 강화시킨다고 지적한다.
이번 네탄야후와 트럼프의 이란 침공으로 인해, 이란 민주화 세력들도 트럼프에 반대하고, 오히려 위축되어 버렸다고 트럼프 노선을 비판한다.
파르시와 나스리는 2015년 오바마 정부와 이란의 '핵 협상 JCPOA'과 관련한 자문을 했기 때문에, 이란의 중장기 목표와 내부 권력 투쟁과 관계에 대해서 잘 알고 있다. 이번 2026년 전쟁 전에는, '고' 하메네이는 이슬람 종교적 원리에 따라, 이란의 핵무기 개발에 반대했다. 그러나 미국과 이스라엘의 하메네이 사살 이후, 이란 내 강경파 여론은 '핵무장'의 필요성으로 기울고 있다.

마시 알리네자드 (Masih Alinejad)는 미국 트럼프가 전쟁을 통해서 이란 신정체제를 전복시켜야 한다고 주장했다. 그러나 트럼프가 이란 민간시설을 파괴하자, 마시 알리네자드는 이런 폭격은 잘못이라고 트럼프의 작전 변화를 요구했다. 미나브 초등학교 168명 폭격 사망도 마시에게 큰 영향을 끼친 것으로 보인다.

이란 전역에 전기를 차단해버리는 것이야말로 이란 정권이 원하는 것이고, 프로파간다의 승리를 뜻한다. 이란 이슬람 혁명수비대는 미국과 이스라엘을 비난하면서 더 번창하게 된다. 미국의 이란인 폭격으로 인해, 이란인의 분노는 체제로부터 미국으로 향하게 된다. 미국 트럼프는 민간인 살상, 인프라, 전기 발전소 대신, 혁명수비대 센터, 미사일 기지, 이란정권의 억압기구를 파괴해야 한다.
(3) 트리타 파르시의 마시 알리네자드에 대한 비판. - "마시 알리네자드는 이란인들과 미국인들을 동시에 배신했다"
미국의 이란 폭격과 전쟁, 외세개입을 반대해온 트리타 파르시는 마시 알리네자드가 자기를 '희생자'로 묘사하지 말고, 두 가지 점을 뒤돌아봐야 한다고 지적했다.
이런 트럼프의 이란 침략과 민간인 살상이 보여준 진실은 무엇인가? 평소 마시 알리네자드는 미국이 이란을 공격해 '정권교체'를 해야 한다고 주창했다. 트럼프는 마시가 말한대로 이번 네탄야후와 함께 3천명 넘는 이란인들을 죽였다. 마시는 결국 트럼프의 이란인 살해에 동조함으로써 이란인들을 배신했다.
또한 마시 알리네자는 미국인들을 배신했다. 파르시의 이러한 비판 배경에는, 전쟁 이전에 마시 알리네자드가 '이란 민주화' '이란 여성 인권 보호'를 위해서는, 미군이 직접 이란 체제를 붕괴시켜야 한다고 주창했기 때문이다. 그래서 파르시는 마시 알리네자드의 입장이란, 결국 미군을 자기 정치적 목표를 달성하기 위한 '사병'으로 간주했다고, 마시를 비판한 것이다.

But with the reported 48-hour ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz, I feel a moral and patriotic duty to issue a critical warning:
Targeting Iran’s power plants and civilian infrastructure does not weaken the regime. It punishes the Iranian people.
A nationwide blackout in Iran would hand the regime exactly what it wants, a propaganda victory. The IRGC thrives on blaming foreign enemies for the suffering it has created, redirecting public anger away from itself.
It would also put millions of civilians at risk. Power outages mean hospitals shut down, water systems fail, and ordinary people who are already struggling under extreme economic pressure are pushed further into crisis.
And it would weaken the very people standing up to this regime. A population fighting for basic survival in darkness and desperation has far less capacity to organize, protest, and resist.
If the goal is deterrence or disabling the regime, then the target set must be clear and precise: IRGC command centers, missile infrastructure, and the regime’s security and repression apparatus.
Disable the regime’s war machine, not the lives of the Iranian people.
The Islamic Republic has held Iran hostage for decades. At this critical moment, do not allow it to use our national infrastructure as a shield for its survival.
The objective must be the liberation of Iran, not its destruction.

Alireza Jafarzadeh joined 'Fox & Friends First' to discuss the growing anti-regime sentiment in Iran as the nation continues to endure Operation Epic Fury.
Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday over his reaction to the U.S. and Israel carrying out strikes against Iran.
"To you, Zohran Mamdani! You stayed quiet when we have faced massacre, when Islamic Republic assassins were sent here in New York to kill us, stay quiet now! STOP lecturing us Iranians about peace," Alinejad wrote on X. "I don’t feel safe in New York listening to someone like you, Mamdani, who sympathizes with the regime that killed more than 30,000 unarmed Iranians in less than 24 hours."
Mamdani spoke out against the strikes on Saturday in a statement on social media.
"Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war. Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace," he wrote.

Alinejad referenced Mamdani's remarks about "safety" in the city, and said "safety without justice" meant nothing.
"The people of Iran want to be free. Where were you when they needed solidarity? New York belongs to people who stand against terrorism not those who excuse it," Alinejad continued.
Alinejad was the target of an Iranian assassination plot in 2024, as a critic of the Iranian regime.

The Iranian-American journalist spoke to CNN's Dana Bash on Sunday alongside Moj Mahdara, an Iranian-American entrepreneur and co-founder of the Iranian Diaspora Collective.
Mahdara said Democrats needed to get over their dislike of President Donald Trump while speaking about the mixed reactions from members of the party.
"I think that it is imperative the Democratic Party wake up and get past their dislike of Donald Trump, President Trump, and their feelings of international conflicts going on. This is about national security. This is about what is possible in the Middle East. This is about being a good neighbor, good partner to the Gulf States and what their aspirations are," she said.

In an interview with FRANCE 24, Iranian women's rights activist and journalist Masih Alinejad said Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei "is scared of" US President Donald Trump and called for the Iranian leader's targeted killing. "Kill Ali Khamenei the way that you kill[ed] Qassem Soleimani," she said, referring to the US assassination of the top Iranian commander in 2020 during Trump's first term in office.
Iran has just seen several weeks of protests, to which authorities responded with an "unprecedented massacre," according to Amnesty International. Activists say several thousands of people have been killed, although the exact death toll could be much higher.
"I strongly believe that people are still angry and the next wave (of protests) will be much heavier" given the brutality of the crackdown, Alinejad said.
Speaking from New York, Alinejad appealed directly to Trump: "You have promised Iranians several times that if the regime start killing them, then you will protect Iranians. The time has come." She cited the regime's suspension of 800 executions as proof that it fears Trump, urging him to unite G7 leaders to take action.
On January 13, Trump urged Iranians to keep protesting, saying "help is on the way."
Alinejad recalled meeting French President Emmanuel Macron back in 2022, when she urged him to shut down Iran's embassy in France. "When their language towards their own people is guns and bullets, they should not enjoy the privilege of diplomacy on your own soil," she told him.
Macron replied that "France is all about diplomacy", Alinejad recalled. To which she responded: "You're wrong, Mr. President. France is also about revolution. The French Revolution inspired millions of Iranians.
