친환경적, 자동차 진입을 제한하는 시내전차 운행. (street car) 캐나다. 토론토.

전동차 Street car 

캐나다, 토론토, 1970년대, Bloor 블루어 거리.

벽돌을 철로 주변에 깔았는데, 대형 트럭이나 자동차 진입을 제한하기 위해서임.

지금은 아스팔트로 교체한 상태.

 

시내 전차를 운행하는 이유는, 전기를 사용하기 때문에 친환경적이고, 자동차 진입을 제한할 수 있는 이중적 효과 때문. 

몇 차례 전차 운행을 하지 말자는 사람들이 나왔으나, 시민들의 반대로 무산됨. 

 

서울 시내에도 전차가 되돌아올 수 있는 방안을 마련해야 한다.

 

 

 

 

The inlayed brick created a kind of rumble strip in the streetcar lane. It helped to discourage heavy vehicles like trucks from using the lane, and also helped reduce the number of cars using the lane. I'm just old enough to remember workers removing the bricks on Dundas Street in the early 1970s.
