South Korean actress Suzy Bae will make her TV comeback by playing the role of a woman suffering from a type of antisocial personality disorder.

 

Bae, previously dubbed by netizens as "South Korea's Taylor Swift" because of her colorful love life, is set to play the lead role in an original series developed by Coupang Play, a South Korean subscription-based streaming service.

 

The series, titled "The Second Anna," will have a total of eight episodes. It will tell the story of a woman who lives a life that departs from reality due to her psychiatric condition called "Ripley's Syndrome," according to Soompi.

 

Ripley's Syndrome is an antisocial personality disorder that causes patients to believe lies about themselves. Sometimes, these lies even urge patients to commit crimes. The condition got its name from Tom Ripley, a con artist and serial killer in Patricia Highsmith's 1950 psychological thriller novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley."

 

An antisocial personality disorder or sociopathy is a mental disorder that makes a patient manipulate or antagonize others without remorse. A person suffering from this condition is said to be motivated by a strong desire for success but is constantly afraid of failing to live up to their ideals.

 

"The Second Anna" was originally planned as a movie but was eventually turned into an eight-episode series. Filming will begin as soon as the entire cast has been decided, reported Koreaboo.

 

Suzy agreed to work on "The Second Anna" because of her trust in its script as well as its director, Lee Ju Young, who helmed the movie "A Single Rider," which earned a total of $2.34 million, as per the Korean Film Council.

 

Bae was last seen in the 2020 series "Start-Up," which also starred Nam Joo Hyuk, Kim  Seon Ho, Kang Han Na and Stephanie Lee. The plot of "Start-Up" revolves around aspiring entrepreneurs who dream of making a name in South Korea's highly competitive tech industry.

 

Bae, also known as Bae Suji in Korean, is currently 26. She made her debut in 2010 as part of the girl group Miss A, which disbanded in 2017.
