내가 처음 캐나다에서 지인들에게 배운 단어가 수도물, 수도꼭지이다. 햅 탭 워러 have tap water . 서울에 있을 때는 수도물을 직접 마시지 않았다. 그런데 토론토 지인들이 수도물을 마구 마시는 것이었다. 물론 여과기 물통을 사서 먹는 사람들도 있지만.
라이언과 페르난도가 탭워러 괜찮다고 벌컥 벌컥 마셔대서 놀랬네. 몇 차례 물어봐도 '괜찮다'고 하니, 괜찮을 줄 알고 나도 따라 마시곤 했다. 지금까지 별 탈이 없는 것을 보니, 수도물이 상대적으로 한국보다 안전하다.
그래도 여러 나라에 대한 내 비교 의식은 멈출 수는 없다.
